Revelstoke is an excellent pitstop on the way to Glacier, Yoho, and/or Banff National Park(s) from Vancouver. A hidden gem nestled just off of Highway #1 adventure awaits with an abundance of hiking trails, forests, meadows, lakes and camp sites. The highlight of the park is the Meadows in the Sky Parkway, a 16 mile (26km) paved road that takes you 1,600 meters to the summit of Mount Revelstoke. In prime season, you’ll enjoy breathtaking rolling hills filled with wildflowers. Along the parkway are multiple hiking trails and scenic viewpoints. For more information, check out the official tourism site for Revelstoke.
When to Visit
May to October is the best time for hiking in Revelstoke. In the spring the Meadows in the Park opens gradually as the snow starts to melt at higher elevations. However, we arrived in late June and we could only drive a little over halfway up due to lingering snow on the road.
Hiking in Revelstoke – Meadows in the Sky
To access the parkway you will need a Canada National Park pass. You can purchase it from the kiosk at the entrance for the drive. In the evenings the road is closed to vehicle traffic. Be sure to check the hours posted at the welcome center ahead of time. Below are the viewpoints along the drive. These were not clearly marked with the corresponding letters (from what we could tell when we visited). But there are pretty obvious pull aways and most often other cars parks delineating the look-outs.
Roadside Viewpoints:
- A – Revelstoke
- B – Rainforest
- C – Monashee
- D – Columbia
- E – Eagle Pass
- F – Bridge Creek
- G – Panorama Point
NOTE: Dogs are NOT allowed above the Columbia Viewpoint on the Meadows in the Sky Parkway, including the Eva, Miller, and Jade Lakes trails.
Hikes near Mount Revelstoke
There is a wide variety of hikes surrounding and leading up to Mount Revelstoke. We arrived at the visitor center and received a map detailing each hike. Including its difficulty and estimated time to complete. I will list each hike below and include a picture of the map for your reference. I recommend you visit the visitors center or pick up a copy from your hotel (if they have one).
SAFETY NOTICE – Revelstoke is located in bear country as is all of British Columbia. As a precaution, it is highly recommended you pick up bear spray for your hikes. You can ask the visitor center where to purchase some. We bought ours in town at Revy Outdoors, but we were also told you could purchase it from the hardware store.
